Hill to Harbour

Check out our beautiful course along the coast and Harbour of Newcastle

Hill to harbour

12km

Starting from Empire Park in Bar Beach, just up the road from the famous Merewether Beach break, the event lines up on Memorial Drive just past the Cooks Hill Surf Club and runs straight up towards the Strzelecki lookout. It climbs for 1.8km and then levels out to head down-hill, entering beautiful King Edward Park. Winding through the Park, the run heads to the middle entry past the famous 530 runners drink station where it heads (CHANGE DUE TO CLIFF CLOSURE) out onto the Reserve Rd and Watt St footpath and into Flectcher Park and right onto the Shortand Espl path and past the Newcastle SLSC house remaining on the paths until the Newcastle Ocean Baths where you run back to the road and around to the Nobbys Roundabout, where it turns left into Fort Drive and around to the top (another little hill!!) and then returns down to the roundabout via Nobbys Rd, then left into Wharf Rd. (note: we no longer use the breakwall) The course then follows Wharf Rd passing Customs House, old Newcastle Rail Station, Harry’s Café D Wheels and the Queens Wharf complex. Turning right near Argyle St the course then heads into the Honeysuckle area and follows the new Foreshore all the way past Newcastle Marina and around Throsby Creek until Newcastle Rowing Club and Pat Jordan Oval in Carrigton. The Hill to Harbour touches much of what Novocastians love about Newcastle. We hope you enjoy it. The course will be 12km when we can return to the Cliff section, but is currently 11.8km.
