Event Notice and changed traffic/pedestrian conditions

Hill to Harbour Run - Sun 7 April - 5.30am- 10.30am

The Hill to Harbour Run (new start time 8.00am) will be held as above. The event includes 12km, 6km and 2km courses. The event promotes the City of Newcastle and encourages health and fitness and will attract over 2500 runners. Due to the size of the event, it is staged along roadways and paths, with one start at Bar Beach skate park and one finish venue Pat Jordan Oval Carrington. To protect the safety of runners the following traffic management and pedestrian initiatives will be in place. During these times you can expect changes traffic conditions on or limited access to:

  • Memorial Drive – closed from Bar Beach Ave to Kilgour Ave 5.30 – 8.45am
  • Memorial Drive – closed from High St to Bar Beach Ave from 6.00am – 8.45am (resident access on request - north bound only) No access during the start of Hill to Harbour 8.00am – 8.20am
  • Cliff St and the top of The Terrace – Open always with runners on paths only
  • York Rd King Edward Park - closed 5.45am - 9.15am
  • Watt St – open - runners on paths only from King Edward Park entrance to Fletcher Park – 8.10am – 9.10am (this detour is due to closed cliff walkways)
  • Fletcher Park – runner on paths – 8.10am – 9.10am
  • Shortland Esplanade – Zaara St to Watt St – OPEN AT ALL TIMES – runners on paths 8.15am - 9.20am
  • Shortland Esplanade - Zaara St to Nobbys roundabout closed - 5.30am – 9.45am (no parking – no access out)
  • Fort Drive – closed - 5.30am – 9.45am
  • Nobbys Rd – closed - 5.30am – 9.45am
  • Wharf Rd from Watt St to Nobby’s Rd from 5.30am –10.00am
  • Wharf Rd from Watt St to Argyle St closed from 5.30am – 10.00am (access to apartments from Argyle end via slip lane, city side) No access east of apartments.
  • Honeysuckle promenade – runners on the harbour side path heading west – 8.15am-10.30am (no cycle access, residents please give way to runners)
  • Newcastle Marina and Throsby Foreshore – runners on walkways - 8.15am-10.30am
  • Pat Jordan Oval and car park closed - 5.30am-11.00am
  • Please do not park on any part of the course, as any vehicles parked on the course WILL NOT be able to leave until the course is reopened.
